Die Öffentlichen Bibliotheken von Toronto: “Absolutely Vital”

Obwohl das Video aus dem Jahr 2008 stammt, wird sich an der Angabe von 73  % nur wenig geändert haben. Es wird betont, dass 73 % der Einwohner Torontos den Service der Stadtbibliothek nutzt. Im Mai erfuhr ich in Großbritannien, dass es dort etwa 50 % der Bevölkerung sind, die öffentliche Bibliotheken in Anspruch nehmen. Wieviel Prozent sind es denn eigentlich hierzulande? In einem Artikel aus der Zeitschrift BuB aus dem Jahre 2008 schätzte Meinhardt Motzko die Zahl auf maximal 30 %. Was machen die anderen anders oder warum sind es hierzulande weniger Menschen, die eine öffentliche Bibliothek aufsuchen?

Das Leitbild der Stadtibliotheken Torontos lautet:

“Toronto Public Library Foundation believes that the character and quality of a city depends on the resources available to its people. A great library is a fundamental requirement for any city to achieve its full social and economic potential. We believe that Toronto’s Library is vital to the City of Toronto, and vital to support.”
