Todd Bol über Little Free Libraries
Als Todd Bol 2009 ein Modell entwarf, dass ein Raum voll mit Büchern war, hatte er noch keine Ahnung, dass diese einfache Idee ihn für Weiteres inspirieren wird. Er und sein Kollege begründeten, was später zu einem weltweiten Phänomen mit mindestens 12.000 Little Free Libraries (Stand: Ende 2013) wurde.

Um für den Masterstudiengang Management in Library and Information Science zu werben, entstand die folgende Infografik der University of South California. Der Titel hierzu lautet: Library Industry Outlook. Diese visualisierte Grafik ist nicht nur für all jene interessant, welche die Zukunft von Bibliotheken planen, sondern auch für die, welche sich um die Zukunft von Bibliotheken sorgen. Die Infografik enthält interessante Erkenntnisse darüber, wie Smartphones und E-Reader die Entwicklung von Bibliotheken beeinflußen können.

I myself would seem to be a prime example of a person who no longer needs the library. With a high-speed Internet line at home and a huge personal library thanks to many years of work as a book reviewer, why would I bother going to the library? Well, here’s why. I go there to do research[ – ]the Internet doesn’t have all you need to know. And, of course, it doesn’t have librarians, who in my experience know everything and are remarkably generous in sharing it.
I also go to the library to find out what’s going on (thanks to the most comprehensive bulletin board of events in the neighborhood) and the chance to run into my neighbors.
